From Lori:

Hi Tim….No it would not, although I grew up in a house next to a middle school. So if the Freemanville location is not to your liking, exactly what 100 acre tract in N. Fulton County is? We need another set of schools and it is going to impact someone…so what specific alternative do you suggest?

From Tim:

Lori:

In my view, the BOE dropped the ball a while ago. Having lived in Milton since 1978, my family has seen more growth than most. However, this wonderful fact did not stop the BOE from considering removing my 65 year old mother from the home I was raised in off of Bethany for the new Milton High. Thankfully, we dodged a bullet due to her property abutting three creeks. However, such luck would not be the case for seven other longtime residents who would eventually lose their homes to Milton High via the threat of eminent domain. I can tell you that even though we dodged a bullet, Bethany Road experiences noise, speeding teenagers, and non stop traffic daily including weekends. Please don't mis-read me. I respect the fact that folks want their children to attend good schools. However, I am not a fan of anyone, be it you, me, or the folks down the road to be exposed to what my family is now exposed to nor and I a fan of families losing their homes to a school. In my view, the BOE should have knocked down the old Milton High and rebuilt a top notch facility. They could have encompassed properties that surrounded that facility for the new Milton High and they can do that now for this other proposed facility. If you go down Canton Street today, you will see that bordering properties are for sale much as they were when Milton was shoved in. It borders retail and the traffic would be in arenas that are set up for the traffic.

Keep in mind too that if this high school is placed at the proposed site, you will see a domino effect like never before. Folks who love to talk about the wonderful horse farms can kiss them good by. Wood / Philips Road? Gone. The effects go on and on.

In closing, it should be stressed that people respect areas that are different and unique. We have the potential to be that place provided we encourage patience, focus, and forsight. Slamming this facility in the heart of Milton will just expose all residents to monotony in the long run.

All the best -

Yes, I am in favor of Birmingham High School. I do not know if we would be redistricted to it or stay at Milton H.S., but already MHS is at capacity and there are a lot of new houses being built in this area without the infrastructure in place. We moved to this area BECAUSE OF THE SCHOOLS. Schools are a big part of what makes this a desirable place to live. Please do not let the NIMBYs dominate this discussion....there are many others out there like me, too!
